21 years ago my cousin Rebecca was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. At age 29, little more than a year later Becky lost her battle leaving behind two beautiful young girls (just 8 & 4 years old) and distraught family and friends.

I'm taking on the Silver Lining Ride and fundraising for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) this November in her memory to continue raising awareness, help increase survival rates and eventually find a cure.

The five-year survival rate for ovarian cancer in Australia is just 48%, meaning those diagnosed get less than half a chance of surviving five years from their diagnosis. I want to help change the statistics and give those diagnosed with ovarian cancer a greater chance of survival. Research is the answer.

This is my first fundraising challenge and I've set some lofty goals considering my current lack of fitness. I'm aiming to raise over $2,500 by riding 1km for each of the 1068 women that died of ovarian cancer in the last year.

I look forward to being pushed closer to these goals by each contribution you can make to this great cause that is so close to my heart.

Day 5
It's been a really good start to this challenge. The daily distances required for an unfit tubby guy in Perth are already getting a bit easier but I'm getting sore in that seat.
I passed the 100km/10% mark on Thursday and have then ridden 58km this morning, the longest ride in my life.
I'm on track and heading towards that target.

Day 1
I was excited to get started this morning so hit the road early, making it to Cottesloe just after sunrise before turning and heading for home. What a beautiful morning.
Just over 36km completed today, the realisation I’m going to need to do this EVERY day to reach my goal is pretty daunting.
I also realised I’m going to need to up my selfie game. These were the best of a bad bunch.
